      Thanks..I think for me the main motivation was seeing children dying from preventable causes..trying to understand the reasons why, and to come up with recommendations to improve things is my main motivation. So the TB vaccine works by helping the body build immunity to prevent more severe disease. It does not prevent recurrence. In fact most of us have probably already been infected with TB since Kenya is a high burden country. The vaccine protects you from it spreading to cause more severe disease like TB meningitis etc. This occurs in people who are immuno-compromised due to disease or drugs, or like young children who still have an immature immune system..

      Great Question! Many of those families chose wagangas because they believe mental health is caused by witchcraft, so my first advise to them is always that mental illness is not witchcraft. I even learnt how to say that in Kigiriama “Vilalu si utsai!”. Then I always advise them to go to hospital and seek help for their patients, and most of them who go to hospital always return with very positive feedback.
