Apologies, I do not much about zoology..but I would advise to start by doing a “literature review”, going through what has been published in an area of interest to you, and by so doing you start to identify gaps in knowledge that you could answer with your project, of course limited by how much time you have and what funds you have available to do good work.
Reach out also to scientists in zoology, they may be able to help you start..
Well, zoology sounds like an interesting area/ course, especially having watched a lot of research that goes to the programs I watch in NatGeo. Having said that, it would be imperative early on in career foundation to start identifying the research gaps in it if you are looking forward to doing research in zoology. I would advise you to identify people who are doing concepts in zoology or others that may be of interest and reach out. If zoology is not of any interest now, then reach out to people doing aspects that interest you. Volunteering in areas that interest you could form a good entry point.
At undergrad level, I would suggest you speak to your lecturers about potential projects. From my experience, most lecturers usually have project ideas that are manageable within the time frame that you have to complete the project and also they will be able to guide you through the project by offering supervision.
